Tools that run on M12

In short
Milwaukee’s M12 is the brand’s sub-compact cordless platform, designed for trades who need to work in tight spaces, electricians, plumbers, automotive technicians, HVAC engineers, and finish carpenters. With over 100 tools in the UK range, M12 covers everything from drill drivers and screw guns through to copper press tools, pipe expanders, and inspection cameras.
The platform uses slide-style batteries, the same fitting philosophy as M18, but at 12V the tools are dramatically smaller and lighter. Every M12 battery from the compact B2 to the 6.0Ah B6 fits every M12 tool, with full cross-compatibility since launch in 2007. The newer M12 HB5 High Output battery delivers up to 25% more power than the standard B4, making it suitable for the most demanding M12 tools like the M12 FUEL impact wrench and SDS hammer drill.
M12 is completely separate from Milwaukee’s 18V M18 platform, different physical connector, no cross-compatibility. For tradespeople primarily working on precision tasks, M12 is the cleanest sub-compact 12V system in the UK market alongside DeWalt 12V XR.
Strengths
- 100+ tools in the UK range: comprehensive sub-compact platform
- Includes specialist trade tools: copper press tools, pipe expanders, inspection cameras, transfer pumps
- M12 FUEL brushless tools deliver near-M18-class performance from a 12V form factor
- RedLink intelligence on every battery protects against overload and overheat
- High Output M12 HB5 delivers 25% more power and runs 25% cooler than standard packs
- 3-year warranty when registered with Milwaukee UK within 30 days
Considerations
- Not compatible with Milwaukee M18: separate physical connector, no shared batteries or tools
- Smaller tool range than M18: 100 tools vs 250+
- Limited heavy-duty options: for serious drilling, cutting, or grinding, M18 is the right platform
- The High Output M12 HB5 is noticeably heavier than the standard B-series batteries
Questions
Which batteries fit Milwaukee M12 tools?
The M12 system uses its own 12V battery, in capacities from compact 2.0Ah up to 6.0Ah High Output.
Can I use an M18 battery on an M12 tool?
No. M12 (12V) and M18 (18V) are separate platforms with different batteries.
What is M12 best for?
Compact, one-handed tools for MEP trades: inspection cameras, transfer pumps, sub-compact drills and ratchets.
