In short
Mirka is a Finnish company, founded in Helsinki in 1943 and part of the family-owned KWH Group since 1984. It started with abrasives and is still best known for them, including Abranet, its net abrasive that pulls dust through the whole sheet. Mirka has made power tools since 2010, and its DEROS electric random orbital sander arrived in 2012. On ToolPicker you’ll find its electric sanders (DEROS II random orbital and mini sanders, DEOS II orbital sanders and the DEROS RS rotary sander) and its 10.8V cordless sanders. Mirka also makes air (pneumatic) sanders, which we don’t list. Most Mirka electric sanders are brushless and connect to the myMirka app over Bluetooth.
Strengths
- Brushless electric sanders, light for their size: DEROS II 150mm models weigh 1.0 to 1.1kg (Mirka's figures)
- Several orbits on one platform: DEROS II comes in 2.5mm, 5mm and 8mm orbit versions
- Built around Mirka's own Abranet net abrasives
- Bluetooth to the myMirka app on DEROS II and DEOS II
Considerations
- 3-year cover needs registration within 30 days (2 years otherwise); 1 year for continuous industrial use
- The 10.8V cordless sanders are a separate battery system with no other Mirka tools beyond its small polishers and grinder
- No UK retailer feed carries Mirka sanders yet, so we can't show prices
Questions
Does Mirka offer a 3-year warranty?
Yes, if you register the tool at myMirka within 30 days of buying it. Otherwise it’s 2 years, and 1 year if the tool is in continuous industrial use.
Are Mirka sanders brushless?
The DEROS II and DEOS II electric sanders are brushless, according to Mirka.
What orbit should I choose?
Mirka sells the DEROS II with a 2.5mm orbit for fine finishing, 5mm as the all-rounder and 8mm for faster stock removal. The pad size and orbit are in each model number (650 = 150mm, 5mm orbit).
Does ToolPicker list Mirka air sanders?
No. We list electric and battery tools only.
