Tools that run on 12V Professional

In short
Bosch’s 12V Professional is the brand’s sub-compact “Blue” cordless platform, designed for trades who work in confined spaces, electricians in consumer units, plumbers in joist voids, finish carpenters, kitchen fitters, and mobile service engineers. The 12V Pro range covers around 30 tools in the UK including drill drivers, impact drivers, hex screwdrivers, oscillating multi-tools, jigsaws, work lights, and inspection cameras.
The platform uses slide-style batteries, same fitting philosophy as the 18V Pro range, but the tools and batteries are completely separate. A 12V battery doesn’t fit an 18V tool and vice versa. Every 12V Pro battery fits every 12V Pro tool, with backwards compatibility maintained since 2005 (the platform was originally branded as 10.8V Pro before being renamed to 12V).
For trades primarily working on precision and access tasks, Bosch 12V Pro competes directly with DeWalt 12V XR and Milwaukee M12.
Strengths
- Sub-compact size: typical Bosch 12V Pro drill weighs under 1kg with battery
- Backwards-compatible since 2005: batteries fit any 10.8V or 12V Pro tool
- CoolPack housing technology helps prevent overheating during sustained use
- 3-year warranty when registered via Bosch Pro360 within 30 days
- GAL 12V-40 charger fills a 3.0Ah battery to 80% in 36 minutes
Considerations
- Smaller tool range than Milwaukee M12 (30 tools vs 100+): limited specialist tooling
- Not cross-compatible with Bosch 18V Pro: separate physical connector
- Highest capacity battery is 6.0Ah: for sustained heavy work, 18V Pro is the right platform
- Brushless option count is limited compared to DeWalt 12V XR and Milwaukee M12 FUEL
- The platform was rebranded from 10.8V to 12V in 2017: older 10.8V branding still appears on used market
Questions
Which batteries fit Bosch 12V Professional tools?
The Bosch Professional 12V (10.8V nominal) system uses its own compact 12V battery, in capacities such as 2.0Ah, 4.0Ah and 6.0Ah.
Can I use an 18V Professional battery on a 12V tool?
No. The 12V and 18V Professional systems are separate and their batteries do not interchange.
What is the 12V Professional range for?
Light, compact second-fix and access work where a small, low-weight tool is the priority.
