About Power X-Change 18V

In short

Power X-Change (PXC) is Einhell’s 18V battery system, launched in 2015. Einhell says one battery runs over 350 tools, from drills and saws to lawnmowers, pressure washers and lighting. Every Einhell cordless line uses it: the Classic and Expert DIY ranges and the red Professional range launched in 2025. The larger 36V tools don’t need a different battery; they take two 18V packs at once.

Einhell sells several kinds of pack, and all of them fit every PXC tool. Standard PXC packs use 18650 cells. PXC Plus packs use larger 21700 cells, so the 4.0Ah Plus pack has five cells instead of ten and weighs 0.59kg. Multi-Ah packs switch between two capacities (4 or 6Ah, 5 or 8Ah), and SEALED packs are rated IP57 against water and dust.

It suits DIYers who want one battery for power and garden tools, and trades who buy from the Professional range, the only Einhell line whose warranty covers commercial use. Register packs within 30 days for a 3-year battery warranty.

Strengths

  • One 18V pack across Einhell's Classic, Expert and Professional tools, garden kit included
  • Einhell lists over 350 tools on it
  • 36V tools take two of the same 18V packs, so there is no second battery system
  • PXC Plus packs use 21700 cells: the 4.0Ah Plus pack weighs 0.59kg
  • 3-year warranty on PXC batteries when registered within 30 days
  • Multi-Ah packs switch between two capacities, and SEALED packs are rated IP57

Considerations

  • Doesn't fit any other brand's tools or batteries
  • Only Professional (TP) tools are warranted for trade use; Classic and Expert are not
  • Some bigger tools need a minimum pack size, so small older packs can be underpowered
  • Two different 4.0Ah packs are on sale (standard and Plus) with different weights, so check which one a kit includes
  • The Professional range only launched in 2025, so the trade line-up is still growing

Questions

Do all Einhell tools use the same battery?

Yes. Every Einhell cordless tool, from the Classic and Expert DIY ranges to the Professional range, runs on the Power X-Change 18V battery. Einhell’s 36V tools take two of the same 18V packs.

What is the difference between PXC and PXC Plus batteries?

PXC Plus packs use larger 21700 cells, so they need fewer cells for the same capacity. Einhell’s 4.0Ah Plus pack has five cells instead of ten and is lighter and more compact than the standard 4.0Ah pack. Both fit every Power X-Change tool.

What is a Multi-Ah battery?

A PXC Plus pack with a switch that sets it to one of two capacities, 4 or 6Ah, or 5 or 8Ah. Einhell says the lower setting gives a longer battery life and the higher one more runtime.

What warranty do Power X-Change batteries have?

Three years when you register the battery with Einhell within 30 days of purchase.

Do Einhell batteries fit other brands?

No. Power X-Change packs only fit Einhell’s Power X-Change tools and chargers.
