In short
Festool’s 18V Ergo platform is a sub-system within the Festool 18V range, designed specifically for cordless sanders. The BP 18 3,0 Ergo battery has a slimmer profile than standard Festool 18V batteries, shaped to keep the sander balanced and out of the way of the sanding surface.
The Ergo system is exclusive in both directions: the ETSC 125, RTSC 400 and DTSC 400 sanders only accept the Ergo battery, and the Ergo battery only fits these sanders. Festool’s newer ETSC 2 and DTSC 200 sanders take the standard Festool 18V packs instead. If you already own Festool 18V tools, the Ergo battery won’t fit your drills or saws.
For tradespeople buying into Festool cordless sanding, this is the only battery option, but the trade-off is purpose-built ergonomics for fine sanding work.
Strengths
- Purpose-built ergonomics: slim profile keeps sanders balanced and accessible
- Same Festool 18V charging ecosystem: works with TCL 6, SCA 16, TCL 6 DUO chargers
- Same Festool Service 3-year warranty when registered
- Light at 0.40kg for comfortable extended sanding sessions
Considerations
- Only fits the ETSC 125, RTSC 400 and DTSC 400 sanders: won't fit any other Festool 18V tool
- Conversely, those three sanders only accept this battery: not interchangeable with standard Festool 18V packs
- Smaller capacity (3.0Ah) means more frequent charging on long sanding jobs
- Buying into Festool sanding means an additional battery type to manage alongside the standard 18V range
Questions
What is the Festool Ergo battery?
The BP 18 Ergo is a slim 3.0Ah battery shaped specifically for Festool’s cordless sanders, giving them a comfortable in-line balance.
Does the Ergo battery fit other Festool 18V tools?
No. The Ergo battery only fits the ETSC 125, RTSC 400 and DTSC 400 sanders, and those sanders only take the Ergo battery. Festool’s newer ETSC 2 and DTSC 200 sanders take the standard 18V packs.
Why a separate battery?
The sander body is built around the slim Ergo pack for balance and grip, so it will not accept the standard Festool 18V battery shape.
