The verdictOur take

The DHP482 is Makita's long-running 18V LXT brushed combi, a 2-speed 62Nm drill with a generous 21-position clutch and a metal chuck, at 1.5kg bare. Being brushed, it gives up motor efficiency and runtime, and it remains one of the most widely owned trade combis around. We rate it a dependable workhorse for LXT owners; for better runtime and power, the brushless DHP485 or higher-torque DHP486 are the upgrades.
