The verdictOur take

The DCD778 is an entry-level 18V XR brushless combi: two speeds, 65Nm, 13mm in masonry and steel and 30mm in wood, at 1.2kg bare. We rate it a good way into the XR system for lighter drilling and driving; for more torque and wood capacity the DCD805 (90Nm, 55mm in wood) is the step up.
