The verdictOur take

The DCD996 was DeWalt's 18V XRP brushless flagship combi, a 3-speed 95Nm drill with strong 16mm masonry capacity, now superseded by the DCD1007. We keep it listed for old-against-new comparison, as it was DeWalt's high-power choice and is still widely owned. We rate the newer DCD1007 the better buy today, with more torque and a refined gearbox; the DCD996 remains a capable choice for XR owners.
