Physical & Build
Festool's big 230mm corded cross-cut saw, and a genuinely specialist tool. It brings 1900W, variable speed to 3500rpm and a huge 86mm of depth at 90° (82mm on the rail), with bevel to 60°, a riving knife, and the same plunge function as the smaller saws. Unusually it includes the parallel side fence in the box, and it converts to a groove cutter with Festool's VN-HK85 unit. Vibration is low at 1.5 m/s², though at 6.8kg it is heavy, as the capacity demands. I've owned an HK 85 for years, and it is the saw I reach for when I need deep, dead-square cross-cuts in big stock like joists, fascia and stair strings, where a 165mm saw simply runs out of depth, and the FSK rail and brake keep something this powerful feeling controlled. One for trade users doing structural or large-section work rather than a general-purpose first saw.
