The verdictOur take

The Makita DDA450 is an 18V LXT brushless stud & joist angle drill, with 70Nm, two speeds up to 1,400rpm and a 13mm keyed chuck, in a case. At 2.9kg bare it is the lightest stud & joist drill here, taking self-feed bits to 65mm, hole saws to 127mm and augers to 38mm. We rate it a manageable choice for smaller holes through joists; Bosch's GRD 18V-127 covers the same self-feed and hole saw sizes, and the DDA460 is the step up to 118mm self-feed bits.
