The verdictOur take

The DDF083 is Makita's 18V LXT brushless drill driver with a 1/4" hex holder in place of a chuck, a 2-speed 40Nm tool at just 0.8kg bare with 20 torque settings. The hex holder makes bit changes quick, so it suits fitters and installers driving screws and drilling with hex-shank bits, up to 36mm in wood. We rate it a neat second drill for LXT owners; if you want a conventional 13mm chuck, the DDF485 and DDF490 are the light brushless alternatives.
