In short
Festool is a German premium brand (founded 1925, part of TTS Tooltechnic) focused on precision and dust control rather than range breadth. It effectively defined the modern track saw and the Systainer stacking case system that most rivals now imitate. Its fit, finish, dust extraction and guide-rail system are built for fine woodworking and fit-out. Cordless tools run on an 18V platform, 36V via twin batteries on some. The all-inclusive warranty is unusually generous: register in MyFestool within 100 days of purchase and you get 3 years of free repair covering wear parts and battery packs, plus one-time theft replacement, not just manufacturing defects.
Strengths
- Class-leading dust extraction and guide-rail system
- Defined the track saw and the Systainer storage standard
- Precision, fit and finish aimed at fine woodworking and fit-out
- All-inclusive warranty covers wear parts and battery packs, plus 3-year theft replacement
- KickbackStop electronic safety on the newer saws
Considerations
- Narrower, specialist range rather than an all-rounder
- Makes most sense if you use the whole system (rails, extractors, Systainers)
Questions
What is Festool known for?
Festool is a premium brand focused on precision, dust control and an integrated system of rails, extractors and Systainers, aimed at fine woodworking and fit-out rather than range breadth.
What does the Festool warranty cover?
Register the tool in MyFestool within 100 days of purchase and the all-inclusive warranty runs 3 years. It covers free repair for manufacturing faults and for wear parts, including carbon brushes, bearings and battery packs, which most warranties exclude. It also carries one-time theft replacement for 3 years (an excess applies) and 10-year spare-part availability. Consumables and accessories such as blades, abrasives and plug-it cables are not covered.
Do Festool track saws work with other rails?
Festool saws run on the Festool FS rail. Makita and Milwaukee track saws also fit the FS-pattern, but Bosch and Mafell use a different rail profile.
What is a Systainer?
The Systainer is Festool’s stackable, connectable case system. Festool created the format that many rivals now imitate.
Do I have to register Festool batteries and chargers for the warranty?
No. Battery packs, chargers and battery lights are covered by the Warranty all-inclusive without separate registration. Keep the original proof of purchase, which is what you present instead of a registration certificate if you need to claim.
