About 40V XGT

In short

XGT is Makita’s 40V max cordless platform, a separate system from Makita 18V LXT. XGT batteries do not fit LXT tools, and LXT batteries do not fit XGT tools. The one link between the two is the ADP10 adapter (191C10-7), which lets an XGT charger charge LXT packs. It is a charging adapter only: it doesn’t let either battery run the other platform’s tools.

XGT also includes 80V tools (using two XGT batteries simultaneously, similar to Makita’s 18V Twin design). The range is smaller than LXT, around 100 cordless tools in the UK, but every one is engineered for sustained high-power applications.

Strengths

  • Higher power output than LXT: designed for tools that previously required mains power
  • Digital tool-battery communication optimises performance and protects against overload
  • High Power "F" series batteries deliver up to 35% more output than standard XGT batteries
  • IPX4 wet guard water resistance and impact-resistant casing for harsh site conditions
  • Backed by 3-year Makita Service warranty when registered within 30 days

Considerations

  • XGT batteries do not fit LXT tools, and LXT batteries do not fit XGT tools
  • The ADP10 adapter (191C10-7) is for charging only: it lets an XGT charger charge LXT packs, not either battery run the other platform's tools
  • Smaller tool range than LXT (around 100 tools) but rapidly expanding
  • For tradespeople already invested in LXT, the upgrade decision needs careful thought
  • 80V (twin XGT) tools are heavy: built for the most demanding jobs

Questions

Which batteries fit Makita 40V XGT tools?

XGT tools take the Makita 40V Max XGT battery only, in capacities such as 2.5Ah and 4.0Ah.

Are XGT and LXT batteries interchangeable?

No. XGT (40V) and LXT (18V) are separate platforms with different batteries and chargers. The batteries do not run each other’s tools.

What is XGT best for?

The heaviest cordless applications such as breakers and large mitre saws, where 40V delivers more sustained power than 18V.
